680 - There is no dial tone

The modem has reported that there is no dial tone.

Try the following:

Please make sure the phone line is properly plugged into your modem and the wall jack, and make sure the phones that utilize this line are not off the hook.

Re-boot the computer -- turn it off, wait a minute, then turn it back on. Now try to re-connect.

Check to see if there a dial tone by plugging in a handset on the line.

Check to see if you have any features that would change the dial tone sound, such as voice mail or a fax macihne? If so, disconnect or disable these devices.

Add commas before the phone number you are dialing. Each comma adds a one second pause. Slowing down the call can help the call processing.
